Surrounded by an intricate leafy border and thick molding embellished with volute rinceaux, the barometer housing itself is a work of art. The foliate theme continues on the white barometer face, with a rinceau above and below the central gauge. An undulating gnomon stands proudly atop a large golden leaf, both encircled by concentric rings, each delicately separated by gilded borders. Two rings of pink inlay, festooned with golden leaves, surround a green inlay with gold lettering used to indicate prevailing weather. Antique barometers are no longer used as reliable scientific instruments, but their beauty is still appreciated by discerning collectors who use them as decorative wall accessories in kitchens, hallways, or libraries.
